Because HID bulbs do not create a complete circuit, some vehicles will display an error code on your dashboard indicating that you have a light bulb burnt out or malfunctioning.  The LCM is used to trick the vehicle into have a power load and a complete circuit therefore not having any of the error codes pop up.

Inconsistent power flow to your halogen bulb or HID ballast causes flickering of the light and for some applications the AFM will steady the flow of power and eliminate the flickering.

50 watt gold plated resistors function the same as the LCM.  The only difference is they are universal fit and can be wired into any circuit where they needed.
